If you want to start a career as a virtual assistant, Skype is another tool you should probably learn. Skype is a communications tool that allows users to chat or make voice calls over the Internet. In addition, Skype allows instant messaging, file transfers, and video conferencing, which is a popular way of collaboration among workers.

Skype-to-Skype calls are free, which makes this tool widely used as a mode of interviews by employers. In oDesk, it is a common requirement of buyers (employers), especially when the job demands constant communication. You can also make calls from Skype to landlines and cellphones for a minimal fee.

Skype has gone a long way from its beta launch in August 2003. From 2005 through 2008, Skype has undergone several version updates and improvement, as well as corporate leadership changes. Microsoft recently agreed to acquire Skype for $8.5 billion.
